My Worth Is Not in What I Own (Keith & Kristyn Getty)

My Worth is Not in What I Own is about the value we should put on our relationship with our Savior. Jesus’ sacrifice and death for the undeserving and unworthy is the biggest mystery of why God did this for us. Christ died for us not because we are worthy. We are garbage.

But Christ’ new life in us gave us value, purpose and meaning. Now we are a masterpiece. Christ paid the high cost so that we’ll be able to say, “I am unworthy of Christ but now have great worth because of Christ.”

My Worth is Not in What I Own lyrics (2014)

VERSE 1
My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the cross

VERSE 2
My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross

CHORUS
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest treasure, wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other
My soul is satisfied in Him alone

VERSE 3
As summer flowers we fade and die
Fame, youth and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us, at the cross

VERSE 4
I will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom’s fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ
At the cross

CHORUS
I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest treasure, wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other
My soul is satisfied in Him alone

VERSE 5
Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed my ransom paid
At the cross

What the Bible says about My Worth is Not in What I Own?

But all those things that I might count as profit I now reckon as loss for Christ’s sake. Not only those things; I reckon everything as complete loss for the sake of what is so much more valuable, the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have thrown everything away; I consider it all as mere garbage, so that I may gain Christ. Philippians 3:7-8 GNB

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. Matthew 13:45-48 ESV

You should not fool yourself. If any of you think that you are wise by this world’s standards, you should become a fool, in order to be really wise. For what this world considers to be wisdom is nonsense in God’s sight. As the scripture says, “God traps the wise in their cleverness”. 1 Corinthians 3:18-19 GNB

I will not Boast in Wealth or Might

The LORD says, “The wise should not boast of their wisdom, nor the strong of their strength, nor the rich of their wealth. If any want to boast, they should boast that they know and understand me, because my love is constant, and I do what is just and right. These are the things that please me. I, the LORD, have spoken.” Jeremiah 9:23-24 GNB

But God will rescue me; he will save me from the power of death. Don’t be upset when someone becomes rich, when his wealth grows even greater; he cannot take it with him when he dies; his wealth will not go with him to the grave.

Even if someone is satisfied with this life and is praised because he is successful, he will join all his ancestors in death, where the darkness lasts forever. Our greatness cannot keep us from death; we will still die like the animals. Psalms 49:15-20 GNB

Fame, Youth and Beauty Hurry by

You should not use outward aids to make yourselves beautiful, such as the way you fix your hair, or the jewelry you put on, or the dresses you wear. Instead, your beauty should consist of your true inner self, the ageless beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of the greatest value in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:3-4 GNB

Do not love the world or anything that belongs to the world. If you love the world, you do not love the Father. Everything that belongs to the world – what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of – none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world.

The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God live forever. 1 John 2:15-17 GNB
