The timeless carol “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” echoes the angelic announcement of the Savior’s birth in Luke 2:10-12, declaring the good news of great joy for all people. It calls every nation to worship Christ, who came to reconcile us to God.
As the angels proclaimed peace on earth and goodwill toward men, the carol reminds us that Jesus is the Prince of Peace foretold in Isaiah 9:6, whose reign will bring justice and righteousness forever.
Through Christ, God accomplished the great work of reconciliation, as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:18-19. He did not count our sins against us but provided a way to restore us to Himself. This is the essence of the gospel the angels heralded: Christ the Savior was born to bring salvation to a lost and broken world.
The carol’s refrain, “Glory to the newborn King,” mirrors the truth in Philippians 2:9-11, where Jesus is exalted above all names. One day, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. Until that day, the song invites us to join the heavenly host in worship and declare His glory.
This Christmas, as we sing “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” let us remember the profound truth it proclaims. Christ came not just as a child in a manger but as our Redeemer, the Mighty God, and the Eternal Father.
Let us heed the call to worship, lifting our hearts in adoration and thanksgiving for the gift of salvation. May the joy and peace of this message inspire us to share the good news with others, as the angels did, so that all may join in singing, “Glory to God in the highest!”
Glory to the Newborn King
2 Corinthians 5:18-19
Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Luke 2:10-12
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Philippians 2:9-11
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Isaiah 9:6
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

God and sinners reconciled
Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
VERSE 2
Christ by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold He’ll come
Offspring of a Virgin’s womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
VERSE 3
Hail, the heaven born Prince of Peace
Hail, the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
