“God’s Not Dead (Like a Lion)” is single from the album God’s Not Dead by the Newsboys. The song appeared on charts during its release in 2012. The song charted in 2014, after the release of the film, God’s Not Dead.

The band performs the song, in a concert sequence, at the end of the film. The song was released through Inpop Records. The song was written by Daniel Bashta. The lead vocals are performed by Michael Tait and features fellow DC Talk member Kevin Max.

In the United States, the single reached gold sales in June 2014, and by May 2015 it became the band’s first platinum single, selling more than 1 million.

Song Lyrics

VERSE 1
Let love explode
and bring the dead to life
A love so bold to bring a
revolution somehow

PRE-CHORUS
Now I’m lost in Your freedom
In this world I’ll overcome

CHORUS
My God’s not dead
He’s surely alive
He’s livin’ on the inside
Roaring like a lion
God’s not dead
He’s surely alive
He’s livin’ on the inside
Roaring like a lion

REFRAIN
He’s roaring, He’s roaring
He’s roaring like a lion

VERSE 2
Let hope arise and
make the darkness hide
My faith is dead I need a
resurrection somehow

BRIDGE
Let heaven roar, and fire fall
Come shake the ground
With the sound of revival

Let heaven roar, and fire fall
Come shake the ground
With the sound of revival

Let heaven roar, and fire fall
Come shake the ground
With the sound of revival

OUTRO
He’s roaring, He’s roaring
He’s roaring like a lion

Jesus is Alive!

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 NIV

But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike.

I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles. Acts 26:22-23 NIV

Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on immortality.

When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:51-55 ESV

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26 ESV

He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ Luke 24:6-7 NIV

They can eliminate God from my education, my TV, my social media, etc., but they will never, ever remove Him from my heart. Read your Bible and know Him, so we can keep Him close when everything about Him will be taken from us. – M Paxton
