Christ Is Our Cornerstone Lyrics (1837)
VERSE 1
Christ is our Cornerstone
On Him alone we build
With his true saints alone
The courts of heaven are filled
On His great love our hopes we place
Of present grace and joys above
VERSE 2
Oh, then with hymns of praise
These hallowed courts shall ring
Our voices we will raise
The Three-in-One to sing
And thus proclaim in joyful song
Both loud and long that glorious name
VERSE 3
Here may we gain from heaven
The grace which we implore
And may that grace, once given
Be with us evermore
Until that day when all the blessed
To endless rest are called away
VERSE 4
Praise to the God of heav’n
Sing praise to Christ the Son
The Spirit, praise be giv’n
Who joins them both as one
The holy Dove, who gives us grace
To find our place in God’s great love

Christ Is Our Cornerstone Hymn Bible verses for reflection
Christ existed before all things, and in union with him all things have their proper place. He is the head of his body, the church; he is the source of the body’s life. He is the first-born Son, who was raised from death, in order that he alone might have the first place in all things. Colossians 1:17-18 GNB
You, too, are built upon the foundation laid by the apostles and prophets, the cornerstone being Christ Jesus himself. He is the one who holds the whole building together and makes it grow into a sacred temple dedicated to the Lord. In union with him you too are being built together with all the others into a place where God lives through his Spirit. Ephesians 2:20-22 GNB
This, now, is what the Sovereign LORD says: “I am placing in Zion a foundation that is firm and strong. In it I am putting a solid cornerstone on which are written the words, ‘Faith that is firm is also patient.’ Isaiah 28:16 GNB
On Him Alone we Build With His True Saints Alone
Come to the Lord, the living stone rejected by people as worthless but chosen by God as valuable. Come as living stones, and let yourselves be used in building the spiritual temple, where you will serve as holy priests to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ.
For the scripture says, “I chose a valuable stone, which I am placing as the cornerstone in Zion; and whoever believes in him will never be disappointed.” This stone is of great value for you that believe; but for those who do not believe: “The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all.” 1 Peter 2:4-7 GNB
