The hymn Awake My Soul and With the Sun is a call to believers in Christ to make a commitment to ignite their intimacy with God. Shake off the dull sloth and early rise, and disperse sins as morning dew are great practices of an obedient servant of God.
Awake My Soul and With the Sun (1695)
VERSE 1
Awake my soul and with the sun
Thy daily stage of duty run
Shake off dull sloth and early rise
To pay Thy morning sacrifice.
VERSE 2
Lord, I my vows to Thee renew
Disperse my sins as morning dew
Guard my first springs of thought and will
and with Thyself my spirit fill.
VERSE 3
Direct, control, suggest, this day
all I design or do or say
That all my pow’rs, with all their might
in Thy sole glory may unite.
VERSE 4
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heav’enly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

What the Bible says about Waking Up Early to Commune with God?
I have complete confidence, O God; I will sing and praise you! 8 Wake up, my soul! Wake up, my harp and lyre! I will wake up the sun. 9 I will thank you, O Lord, among the nations. I will praise you among the peoples.
10 Your constant love reaches the heavens; your faithfulness touches the skies. 11 Show your greatness in the sky, O God, and your glory over all the earth. Psalms 57:7-11 GNB (cf. Psalms 108:1-4)
Shake off Dull Sloth and Early Rise
Listen to my cry for help, my God and king! I pray to you, O LORD; 3 you hear my voice in the morning; at sunrise I offer my prayer and wait for your answer. Psalms 5:2-3 GNB
I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And I wait for His word. 6 My soul waits in hope for the Lord More than the watchmen for the morning; Yes, more than the watchmen for the morning. Psalms 130:5-6 NASB
Guard my First Springs of Thought and Will
Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. 24 Rid yourself of a deceitful mouth And keep devious speech far from you. 25 Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.
26 Watch the path of your feet, And all your ways will be established. 27 Do not turn to the right or to the left; Turn your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:23-27 NASB
