Psalm 3 begins with David’s cry for help as his enemies rise against him, but he knows his hope rests in God. Though many taunt him, saying there’s no salvation for him in God, David holds firm, trusting that God is his shield and source of honor.
Despite the threats, David finds joy in God’s presence, lifting his head high, knowing all things will work for his good.
Turning his worry to prayer, David finds peace, knowing that God has always answered him. Nothing can stand between God’s favor and David’s faith, so he rests safely in God’s protection, even at night, when fears are usually strongest.
David sleeps in peace, assured of God’s grace, while many are restless and troubled.
In this trust, David sees sleep as a picture of God’s care in life and death; he knows that just as God watches over him in bed, He will also watch over him beyond life’s end.
His faith triumphs, and what started as a complaint turns to joy, as David ends by saying, “Salvation belongs to the LORD.” All who have the Lord as their God can rest assured that He is their salvation.
